Mr. Alton Eugene (Gene) Farmer of Hartford passed away Monday, July 30, 2012 at Flowers Hospital.  He was 82.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, in Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. C. M. Holloway and Rev. David Grier officiating.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.  Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund, 873 N. Shiloh Road, Hartford, AL  36344 or to the Hartford Rescue Squad.

The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 12:00 until service time. 

Mr. Farmer was born on September 14, 1929 in Geneva County, AL to the late Burl Falcom and Lemmie Jewel Stokes Farmer.  He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was a loving father who cared deeply for his family.  After 26 years he retired from Fort Rucker as an aircraft mechanic, and then he enjoyed farming and fishing.

urvivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary N. Strickland Farmer of Hartford; one daughter:  Paula (Tommy) Alley of Wicksburg; two grandsons:  Nick (Brittany) Alley of Wake Forrest, NC, Jeremy (Tiffany) Alley of Wicksburg; one great grandchild:  Reagan Alley; one brother:  James Earl (Jo) Farmer of Hartford; and one niece.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Alley, Nick Alley, Kip Justice, Joel Marsh, Glenn Strickland and Jeff Thomley.
