OZARK… Mr. Arlia “Mac” McKenny, Jr. (SFC, United States Army, Retired), a resident of Ozark, died Tuesday morning, July 25, 2023, at his home. He was 86.
Funeral services, with full military honors, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 28, 2023, in the Ewell Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Dale Goodwin and Pastor David Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday at the church. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, Dale County Camp, PO Box 291, Ozark, AL 36361.
Mr. McKenny was born May 24, 1937, in Hinton, West Virginia. He joined the United States Army, where he served two tours in Vietnam with the 4th Infantry Division from 1966-1967 and the 17th Aviation Group from 1971-1972. Mr. McKenny retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He lived in various locations in the United States while serving in the military before moving to Ozark in 1969. Mr. McKenny was very passionate about aviation and was a crewman on the Skycrane, Chinook, Huey, and Choctaw CH34. He also retired from DynCorp as an aircraft mechanic after twenty years of employment. Mr. McKenny was an active member of the Ewell Bible Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a trustee, served in the prison ministry, and the bus ministry. His passion was restoring Volkswagen cars and attending car shows. Mr. McKenny loved his family and never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. Ayers and Belva Bragg McKinney, a sister, Drema Shaw, and a brother, Bill McKinney.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Ursula Wentzel McKenny, Ozark; daughter, Angela Moncrief (Michael), Columbus, Georgia; three sons, Thomas McKenny (Silke), Edmond, Oklahoma, Michael McKenny (Mickey), Dothan and Robert McKenny (Pamela), Newton; a sister, Judy Cathell, Newark, Delaware; a brother, Gene McKinney (Bertie), Newark, Delaware; sister-in-law, Sandy McKinney, Newark, Delaware; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
