ARTHUR EUGENE “GENE” STILLMAN


 


Arthur Eugene “Gene” Stillman, peacefully passed away in his Dothan, Alabama home on Thursday, July 25, 2019. He was 94 years old.


Mr. Stillman will be interned in the Stillman Family Plot at Naples Memorial Gardens, Naples, FL.


He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on November 3, 1924, the son of Percy Stillman and Mary Madeline Gamet Stillman. Mr. Stillman graduated from Yale University, where he attended on a full scholarship. He served in the U.S. Navy as a 1st Lieutenant. He was a licensed Certified Public Accountant. He obtained his MBA from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Stillman had a prestigious business career spanning 45 years as financial officer and Vice President of Finance for International Silver Company in CT, Bausch & Lomb in Rochester, NY, GAF in Rochester, NY, and Gillette Corporation in Boston, MA.  As a part of his business career, Mr. Stillman traveled all over the world and lived in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and California, before retiring to Florida in 1986. He and his wife, Shannon, moved from Florida to Dothan, AL in 2017. Mr. Stillman was an accomplished pianist and singer, performing in numerous community theatre productions. He was also a member of several church choirs.


 He was predeceased in death by his first wife of 47 years, Corrine Moore Stillman who died in Florida in 1993; daughter, Nancy Croteau of Maine; and a sister, Bonnie Stillman of Minnesota.


He is survived by his wife Shannon Maloy Stillman of Dothan, AL; daughters, Judy Miller (Richard) of New Jersey; Patty Hatch (Robert) of Massachusetts; son, John Stillman (Luz Karime) of New Jersey; 9 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Stillman is also survived by his sister, Caryl Aananson (Lee) of Minnesota; 2 nieces; 1 nephew; 9 great-nieces and nephews; and 1 great-great-niece. He is also survived by 5 step-children and 7 step-grandchildren.


Gene Stillman shall always be remembered as a kind, gracious and honorable gentleman who was loved and admired by all.
