Mr. Arvin W. McCathern, age 81, of Dothan, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020.
Arvin was born October 9, 1938 in Lumberton, North Carolina to the late John Clinton McCathern and Josephine Worley McCathern. He was the former owner and operator of the Chicken Kitchen Restaurant and McCraft Company of Dothan. He touched many lives throughout his life and reared many children who called him fondly “Daddy MAC” in the community. He always wore a crooked, happy smile to greet you, ushered words of advice, and offered a firm handshake. He is probably best known for his many gifted talents, creating and building with his gifted mind. From wood working to building incubators, he was a jack of all trades that this generation will surely miss. Anyone who knew him personally was empowered by his fierce leadership, strength, and the love in his heart he imparted with you. To know him was a gift. He was a special many and loved by many.
In addition, to his parents, Arvin was preceded in death by his brother Aquila F. McCathern and his sister, Ada Lee McCathern.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Glenda E. McCathern of Dothan; his daughter, Prudence M. Davis (John) of Dothan; his sons, Arvin W. McCathern, Jr. (Angel) of Dothan and Audy D. McCathern (Maureen) of Chattanooga, TN; his sister, Ila Sue Woodall of Ramer, AL; his grandchildren, Samantha McCathern, Max McCathern, Lexie Davis, and Carlie Davis; numerous other relatives and friends.
A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family. A Celebration of Life service to be held at a later date once the State Health Order for COVID-19 has been lifted.
