ARITON… Aubrey “Big Daddy” Peters, 69 of Ariton, AL, entered his eternal rest at his home on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 23, 2022, in the Ariton High School Gymnasium. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 22, 2022, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home.
Aub was born October 11, 1952, in Ozark, AL to Betty & Toby Peters. Following his graduation from Ariton High School in May of 1971, Aub joined the National Guard in October, and he served his country for 6 years. He then began his 46-year-long career with Pea River Electric on May 28, 1973. Aub retired as Right of Way Foreman in January 2020. Throughout his career with Pea River, he made lots of friends and led many young men who worked alongside of him. Aub, FD-1, answered the call to faithfully serve the Town of Ariton as a member of the Ariton Fire & Rescue Squad in 1991. In 1997, Aub became the Ariton Fire Chief and has operated in this role every year since then. He served as Vice President of the Dale County Fire Association. To know Aub was to love Aub. He did not meet a stranger. Aub married the love of his life, Rhonda Laney Peters, in January 1990. Together, Aub and Rhonda have served the citizens of Ariton truly because the love and compassion they have in their hearts. Aub’s special delight was in spending time with his grandkids as seen by the huge smile on his face as he always told everyone about them.
Aub was preceded in death by his Father Toby Peters and Father & Mother-in-Law Obie Ray and Annette Laney.
Aub is survived by his wife of 32 years Rhonda Laney Peters; his son Jason Peters, his daughter and son in love Matt & Mindy Blankenship and Kristie (Michael) Deloney; his grandchildren Laney Deloney, Mattox Blankenship, Lane Bludsworth, Micah Blankenship, McKinley Deloney, and Maxston Blankenship; his mother Betty Peters; his brother Corsey (Janet) Peters; his sister Janetta Goolsby; his brothers-in-law Randy (Maxine) Laney, Stevie (Jaine) Laney, and Eddie Harris; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and a family of brothers and sisters on the Ariton Fire & Rescue Squad and Pea River Electric Cooperative.
The Peters family would like to extend a special thank you to each and every one who has had a special part in Aub’s care taking. We are forever grateful for the outpouring of love shown to our family. The family will receive flowers or memorials may be sent to the Ariton Fire & Rescue Squad P.O. Box 183 Ariton, AL 36311.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Wally Olson, Adam Bruhn, Steven Baxley, Matt Johnson, Ben Key, and Scotty Barefoot.
