Mr. Billy Eugene Rice, age 81, a resident of Ashford, died at his residence early Sunday after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday December 22, 2015 at the Ashford First Assembly of God Church with the Reverends Jerry Whitt and Clint Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.
The family will be receiving friends at the Ashford First Assembly of God Church from 12:45 until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to services. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Ashford First Assembly of God Church, P. O. Box 488, Ashford, Al. 36312.
Mr. Rice was born on July 15, 1934 in Houston County the son of Albert Euell Rice and Nellie Hazel Givens Rice. He was a 1952 graduate of Ashford High School, a U.S. Army Military Policeman, and a graduate of Troy State University. Mr. Rice was retired as owner of the B & R Milling Company Inc. in Ashford where he worked for 39 years. He was a former member of the Ashford Quarterback Club; and the Alabama Cattlemans Association, a member of the Troy Alumni Association; chief inspector at the Ashford Voting precinct; a member and deacon of the Ashford First Assembly of God Church and was a past Adult Sunday School teacher. Mr. Rice thoroughly enjoyed playing and singing gospel music.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include: wife of 60 years, Gerry Ann Sanderson, Ashford; a son, Ken Rice (Kay), Dothan; 2 daughters, Marcia Jenkins (Don), Hampton, New Hampshire; Ursula Bryant (Danny), Brundidge; a brother, Benny Howell Rice (Helen), Lilburn, Ga.; 4 grandchildren, Aaron Rice, Adam Jenkins, Thomas Bryant and Lauren Bryant; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Adams; 3 great step-grandchildren, Christian Adams, Sarah Adams and Blake Adams. The family wants to give a special thanks to caregivers, Missy Haden and Wanda Barber for their kind and considerate care of “Mr. Billy”.
Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
