GRIMES…Mr. Billy Joe Whitehead, a resident of Grimes, near Midland City, died late Monday morning, January 1, 2024, at his home. He was 75.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 4, 2024, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Brenda Yohn and Reverend Randy Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in Midland City Cemetery. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Whitehead, son of the late Reverend Roy Albert Whitehead and Beatrice Leger Whitehead, was a native and lifelong resident of Midland City. He was retired from Howell Plywood Mill and was engaged in farming most of his lifetime. Some of Mr. Whitehead’s greatest moments were when he was riding and training horses. He enjoyed breaking and training so that the children could ride. Mr. Whitehead was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean Cotton Whitehead; two sisters, Virginia Burch and Luedell Bryant; three brothers, Larry Whitehead, Jerry Whitehead, and Eugene Whitehead.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Allison Slayton (James), Mississippi; a son, Lee Griffin (Tina), Tampa, Florida; his siblings, Onise Miller, Midland City, Ann Henderson (Lamar), Eufaula, Edward Whitehead (Judy), Jackie Whitehead (Debbie), Joyce Chandler (Delbert), all of Midland City; sisters-in-law, Dora Whitehead and Brenda Whitehead; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his fur babies, Blackberry and Redberry
Serving as active pallbearers will be Jerome Miller, Bert Chandler, Leroy Whitehead, Jason Whitehead, Joey Bryant, Henry Henderson, and Jeremy Whitehead.
