Mr. Bobby Gene Layton of 2008 Stonewood Drive Dothan, AL, surrounded by his family, went to be with his Lord peacefully on January 7, 2024, following an extended illness.


A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Tim Skelton officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. 3250 South Rocky Creek Road Ashford, AL 36312.


Mr. Layton was born on September 25, 1937, in Houston County. He was a graduate of Ashford High School Class of 1955. He was employed with Colonial Baking Company for 38 years. He retired December 31, 1993. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church of Dothan.


He was preceded in death by his father, John Lewis Layton; mother, Ethel Mae Layton; and sisters, Bonnie Drinkwater and Miss Ethel Layton.


Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Janice Pynes Layton of Dothan; two sisters, Daphne Lawrence and husband Mike and Kathy Creel of Tallahassee, Florida; brother, Johnny Layton and wife Judy of Yulee, Florida; and 5 nieces, 4 nephews and several cousins.


He married his adored wife, March 7, 1959 in Ashford. She is someone he “never got tired of talking to.” They lived and prayed together in Dothan at Gulfport, Mississippi, Montgomery, Alabama and moved back to Dothan in 1989 to be near their family.
