Mr. Bobby Reynolds “Bob” Jernigan, a resident of Ariton, died Thursday, November 12, 2020, in Dale Medical Center. He was 80 years old.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2020, in Center Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Bryan Sanders and Reverend Joe Underwood officiating. Interment will follow, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. Social distancing and all COVID-19 precautions will be observed.
Active pallbearers are Thomas Alums, Billy Blackwell, Doug Cowarts, Larry Goodson, Sam Hallmark, and Robert Lisenby. Honorary pallbearers are Doug Cherry and Wilton Thompson.
Mr. Jernigan was born September 13, 1940 in the Arguta Community. He graduated from Carroll High School in 1958. He was a member of the Carroll Eagles football, basketball, and baseball teams. Bob attended both Auburn University and the University of Alabama. Upon the completion of his college studies, he served in the U. S. Corps of Engineers and the Alabama National Guard. After 27 years of service, Bob retired from the United States Postal Service in 1997. For more than fifty years, Mr. Jernigan was a member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Alabama, Ariton Lodge No. 171. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with turkey hunting being his passion. He selflessly served family, friends, and strangers with his time, talents, generosity, strong handshake, sparkling eyes, and warm smile. Bob was a member of Center Ridge Baptist Church. In previous years, he served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School director, and music leader. He loved his church and his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
Mr. Jernigan was preceded in death by his parents, J. D. and Melba Brown Jernigan; brother, Jerry Jernigan; sister, Jackie Williams; grandson, Timothy Chase Johnston.
Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-one years, Theresa Jernigan; sons, Jeff Johnston (Tammy), Ariton, Dr. Shanon Jernigan (Laura), Birmingham, and Clay Jernigan (Melissa), Ariton; grandsons, Daniel Jernigan, Ariton and Reynolds Jernigan, Birmingham; sisters, Jennie Brunner (Gene), Skipperville and Janice Black (Larry), Ontario, Canada; sister-in-law Nina Jernigan, Ozark; numerous nephews and nieces.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to his special caregivers and friends, Sam Hallmark and Evelyn Ward.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Center Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3573 N Highway 123, Ariton, Alabama 36311; or to Ariton Baptist Church Second Chance Ministries, 157 Atlantic Street, Ariton, Alabama 36311. Second Chance Ministries provides single parent or orphan children the experience of hunting or fishing with a Christian sportsman.
