Mr. Carlton Orell Hayes of Samson passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2015.  He was 86.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at New Home Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Williams and Rev. Bo Newberry officiating.  He will be laid to rest at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing.  The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Eddie Brewer Christmas for Kids Fund at the Samson Banking Co., 2 W. Main St., Samson, AL 36477. 


Mr. Hayes was born in the Fairview Community in Coffee County on February 10, 1929 to the late Henry and Minnie Carter Hayes.  He was a member of New Home Baptist Church for nearly eighty years, having served as a deacon for more than sixty years.  He served in the US Army during the Korean War and later in the Alabama National Guard.  Mr. Hayes was a Mason for sixty years and a Shriner for many years.  He retired from his Civil Service job as an electrician at Fort Rucker.  He was preceded in death by all six of his siblings.


He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Jo Ann Parker Hayes of Samson; two daughters, Martha Ann Tew (Tim) of Geneva and Barbara Jo “B.J.” Hayes of Samson; son, Keith Hayes (Sharon) of Samson; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
