Carlton Ravern “Ray” Norton, age 77, a resident of Avon, died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Glover Funeral Chapel with Dr. Mike Shirah and Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Bluff Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing.
Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Glover Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bluff Springs Baptist Church, 1990 Bluff Springs Road, Ashford, Alabama, 36312.
Mr. Norton was born on November 15, 1939 in Louisville, Alabama, the son of Orea Carlton Norton and Lillie Rue Brown Norton. He was a graduate of Louisville High School and received his BS from Troy State University and his Masters from Mississippi State University. He was a retired math teacher. Mr. Norton began his teaching career with the Ozark City School system and taught at several schools in Georgia, Florida and Alabama. He retired as a math instructor at Bainbridge College in Bainbridge, Georgia. Mr. Norton was a member Bluff Springs Baptist Church where he was currently serving as a deacon and Sunday School director.
Mr. Norton was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Shanda Leigh Norton; and one sister Bobbie Price.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years Sylvia White Norton of Avon, one daughter Ann McCarty (Derek) of Dothan; one son Carl Norton of Montgomery one brother Orea Norton (Kim) of Hazel Green, Alabama; two grandchildren Bekah McCarty and Joshua McCarty of Dothan; and several nieces and nephews.
