OZARK…Mr. Charles A. Cooper, Jr., a resident of Ozark, died early Tuesday afternoon, August 15, 2023, at his home. He was 90.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 20, 2023, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Steve Byrd and Reverend Mike Whitt officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.


                     Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or to Longstreet Cemetery Fund, c/o Ronnie Snellgrove, 1480 CR 143, Ozark, Alabama 36360.


            Mr. Cooper, son of the late Charles A. Cooper, Sr. and Winnie Faye Seago Cooper, was a native and lifelong resident of Ozark. He was a 1951 Graduate of Dale County High School in Ozark where he played football. His family owned and operated Cooper Dairy in Ozark in earlier years. Following high school, he joined the United States Army, where he was trained as an aircraft mechanic. After spending time in Germany, he returned to Ozark where he was employed at Ft. Rucker as an aircraft mechanic for several years. The last sixteen years of his employment he was the Business Representative for the IAM and A.W. Lodge #1769 and Lodge #75 until his retirement in 1995.


            Mr. Cooper was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was active at Ebenezer Baptist Church in the Longstreet Community. He formerly served as President of the Cemetery Board at Ebenezer and was instrumental in obtaining the historical plaque at the cemetery. Mr. Cooper was a member of the Ozark Masonic Lodge #349 and received his 50-year pin in 2017. He was dedicated to his grandchildren, making cane syrup, working at the cane mill, and most of all his favorite past times was “tinkering”.  Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Eloise Hall Cooper, a son, Charles Kevin Cooper, and a stepson, Johnny Byrd.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Sarah Byrd Cooper, son Stephen Cooper, daughter Renae Cooper Mundt; brother, John Parker Cooper (Vera); grandchildren Charles Cooper (Chani), Dustin Cooper (Tiffany), Brittany Cooper Young (Mark), Taylor Mundt, Dalton Mundt (Emily), Haylee Cooper Piper (Zach), Tori Davidson, and nine great-grandchildren; his stepchildren, Steve Byrd (Donna), stepdaughter Barbara Logan (Danny), five step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. 


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Charles Cooper, Dustin Cooper, Taylor Mundt, Dalton Mundt, Zach Piper, and Preston Maund.


           The family would like to express their deep gratitude for Gentiva hospice staff Brett, Maddy, Sharisa, Cary, Lauren and Charles, who helped make these final days comfortable for them all and to Annie Copeland and Marsha Boutwell for their excellent personal care and support of the family.
