Charles Hartley, a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, in Kinsey, Alabama, at the age of 92. Born on August 22, 1932, in Columbus, Georgia, Charles's life was marked by his loving nature, kindness, and wisdom that endeared him to all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 12 P.M. Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Curtis Rich officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.’
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Brannon, Jr., Matthew Brannon, Marc Brannon, Parker Brannon, Greg Hawkins, Robert Wise, II, Caleb Wise and Andy Pham.
Charles's journey through life was one of dedication and service. After bravely serving in the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy, he returned to his roots as a lifelong resident of Dothan, where he began his plumbing profession. With a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, he founded Hartley Plumbing Company, a business that thrived under his leadership and became a staple in the community. Charles continued his involvement in plumbing contracting until his well-deserved retirement at the age of 83.
He was a devoted husband to his wife of 20 years, Kim Hartley, and a loving father to his children, Gaye Hartley Brannon (James) of Waverly, Georgia, Terri Hartley Wise of Brunswick, Georgia, Charles Anthony Hartley (Blair) of Ennis, Montana, and Charles R. Hartley, Jr. of Boston, Massachusetts; step-children, Curtis Hillman (Michelle), Keisha Price (Clay), and Kimmie Nguyen. Charles's sisters, Jean Branton of Valdosta, Georgia, Patricia Hermansen of Eufaula, Alabama, and Peggy Starling (Ricky) of Taylor, Alabama, will fondly remember their brother's unwavering support and love. His legacy continues through his 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the memories and lessons he imparted.
An avid fan of Alabama Football, Charles's love for the game was unmatched. His sense of humor was unparalleled, always ready with a joke that would bring a smile to anyone's face. Charles's storytelling was a source of joy and laughter, creating an atmosphere of warmth and love that drew his family and friends together.
Above all, Charles cherished the time spent with his family. He was the heart of family gatherings, where his storytelling, laughter, and the kind of wisdom that could only be gained through a well-loved life were the highlights of every meeting.
These qualities were not only evident in the way he lived his life but also in the lasting impact he had on those around him. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but his spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched.
The family would like to thank Daddy's angel on earth, Dawn Stewart, his niece and caretaker. The love and devotion that she demonstrated to him during his illness was immeasurable.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
