Clarence Stanley McCruter, a resident of Dothan passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 81.
Funeral service for Mr. McCruter will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage with Chaplain James P. Breckenridge officiating. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM Monday, January 9, 2017 at the funeral home.
Mr. McCruter was born August 19, 1935 in Sawyerville, Alabama to the late Earnest and Curmie Merreweather McCruter. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and then transferred to the United States Air Force where he retired but not before several stops overseas in Germany and Sacramento. He then began his second career with the Department of Defense and retired in Texarkana, Texas. Mr. McCruter had a love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. His first love though was people and he was a natural giver of his time and money. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone about any subject. Mr. McCruter was a member of the Headquarters’ Chapel at Ft. Rucker.
Mr. McCruter is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lem and three sisters, Margaret, Bessie and Earnestine.
Survivors include his wife, Mary J. McCruter; two sons, Lennis McCruter, Dax Butler; two daughters, Andretta Thomas McCruter and Keira Lumbard (Larry); grandchildren, Stanley, Monty, Paul and Tavian; great grandchildren, Aniyah, Darius, Deondre and Aaliyah; special friends, Vera, Betty, Shelley, David, Flynn and John; adopted son, Glen Davis; special cousins, Garland, Robert and Michelle; a host of other extended family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you all the members of the Headquarters’ Chapel for their love and support during this time.
