Mr. Collier Hollan Espy, Sr. of Dothan passed away Thursday, January 24, 2013, at his residence. He was 89.
Graveside services will be held at 3 P.M. Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Memory Hill Cemetery with Dr. Jim Sanders officiating and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the In Christ Name Fund of First United Methodist Church. The family will receive guests following the service at the home of Mr. Espy, 2 Williamsburg Place, Dothan, Al.
He loved to fly and was a Navy Aviator in WW II and owned a Crop Dusting Service in addition to running his farm and timber business. He was also a past manager of the old Dothan Airport. Mr. Espy was a member of First Untied Methodist Church and a lifelong resident of Houston County. His father was an attorney in Houston County on the 1901 Constitution Convention for Alabama. He was an avid Alabama Football Fan, a golfer, and a sports fisherman. He loved St. Andrews Bay.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anne Griggs Espy, parents, Thomas M. Espy and Bessie Hollan Espy, brothers, Robert Espy, William G. Espy, and sisters, Elizabeth Espy Hooks, and Francis Espy Smith.
Survivors include his sons, Collier Espy, Jr. and his wife, Sue S. Espy of Dothan; William Griggs Espy of Dothan; grandchildren, Cary Espy, Elizabeth Espy Quinn and her husband Forrest, Emily Espy and her fiancé Hanson Hodges, Kaz Espy, and great-grandchild, Hollan Espy.
A special thanks to his caregivers thru the last years of his life at home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Hayes, Joe Miller, Dr. Rollins Tindell, and Dr. Furnie Johnston.
