David Earl Johnson, Sr., 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 1, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 at Maple Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Shirah, Rev. Bob Cox, and Rev. Jeremy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, July 3, 2015, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 North 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32504.
Mr. Johnson was a long time resident of Geneva, Alabama, moving to Freeport, Florida in 1991. He was born in Munford, Alabama on August 20, 1929, where he attended and graduated from Munford High School. He also met the love of his life during his ninth grade year while kissing in the cloakroom. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in San Marcos, Texas. In 1955, he moved to Geneva, Alabama, where he was part owner of Reliable Sheet Metal Co. and Reliable Metal Products Inc. He was respected and loved by all who worked with him, and he always showed the same respect and love back. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Geneva, AL, serving as a deacon. Upon moving to Freeport, Fl. he joined South Walton Baptist Church.
His parents Claude W. and Ella Frances Johnson; four brothers, Claude Jr., Joseph, William H. and Ben Bradley Johnson; and one grandson, Gary Bryan Johnson, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Jacqueline Jewell Johnson of Freeport, FL; two sons, David E. Johnson, Jr. (Debbie) of Prattville, AL and Russell Bryan Johnson (Debbie) of Geneva, AL; two sisters, Mary Brown and Mottie Cooper both of Huntsville, AL; three grandchildren, Jennifer Delmore (John) of Auburn, AL, Jeremy Johnson (Amanda) of Panama City, FL, and Ashley Padget (Jamey) of Columbia, MO; and seven great-grandchildren, Killian and Katie Delmore of Auburn, AL, and Mimi, Malley, Maitland, Finn, and Grey Johnson of Panama City, FL.
His family and friends love him dearly and will miss him deeply but rejoice in his home going.
