Mr. David Franklin Mims, Sr., 79, of Dothan, Alabama passed away July 10, 2017 at his residence.
David was born December 5, 1937 to the late Hilburn Franklin Mims and Maurine Etheridge. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He attended Rehobeth High School, and had fond memories of his days as a student at Taylor Elementary School. David was in the construction business for over 50 years having owned and operated Mims Construction and Remodeling Company from 1979 until the time of his passing. He was a life-long outdoorsman, as an avid hunter and fisherman, and had a great love for nature. David took great pride in serving as a coach for his son’s youth sports team for many years and later enjoyed regularly attending sporting events in which his grandkids participated. He also served in the Army National Guard for six years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, David Franklin Mims, Jr. and his brother, Wayne Mims.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Janis Mims of Dothan, AL; his son, Doug Mims of Atlanta, GA; sister, Joyce Sherbino of Spring, TX; brother, Larry Mims of Dothan, AL; grandchildren, Andrew and Mindy Warden, Doug Mims Jr., Matt Mims, Cameron Mims, Trent Mims,; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Warden, Juliana Warden, and Drew Warden II.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Ward-Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM, Friday from the Ward-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiating. There will be no graveside services.
In lieu of flowers family is asking for contributions be made to your charity of choice.
