NEWTON… Derek Jason Watson, a resident of Newton, died Saturday, July 30, 2022. He was 40.

            Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, August 4, 2022, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Griggs officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements.

            Derek was born January 17, 1982, and grew up in Southport, Florida and Newton, Alabama. He attended school in Florida and Dale County. Derek enjoyed fishing, hunting, and Auburn Football.

            Surviving relatives include his daughter, Shealynn Watson; his son, Hunter Watson, both of Fountain, Florida; mother, Darlene Watson (Tommy); father, Howard Watson (Brenda), all of Newton; grandfather, George Haddan, Callaway, Florida; brother, Justin Hand (Crystal), Echo Community; stepsisters, April Seegren (Toby), Rehobeth, and Tammy Willis (Michael), Hartford; step-brothers, Danny Peters (Stephanie), Junior Watson (Ashley), all of Newton, Keith Watson, Ashford, Kevin Watson, Newton, and Joey Watson (Kristi), Campbelton, Florida; a grandson on the way, Weston Davis; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
