Obituary: Mr. Dewey Monroe Dean
Mr. Dewey Monroe Dean of Wicksburg passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 81.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Scott Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetry with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until service time.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Wicksburg Youth Athletic Association, 790 Wicksburg Road, Newton, AL 36352 in memory of Mr. Dean.
Mr. Dean was born January 12, 1943 in Geneva County to the late Tillman and Eva Mae Dean. A true patriot, Mr. Dean served his country as a Sailor in the United States Navy from 1960 – 1962 as well as one year in the Reserves. He owned and operated Dean’s Barber Shop in Wicksburg for 40 years entertaining his customers with his sense of humor and his never-ending stories. He was known for his generosity and compassion; always willing to pick up hitchhikers, working a traveling barber to those homebound, and selflessly serving those in need.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Joyce Shaw preceded him in death.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Lillian Jane Tolbert Dean; daughter, Penny Wells (Keith); two sons: Todd Dean (Donna), and Cory Dean; grandchildren: Joshua Jones (Kelly), Jessica McCord (Rusty), Clay Dean (Madison), Tori Culbreth (Stephen), Logan Dean, and Ashley Sewell; great grandchildren: Jeremiah Jones, John Peyton Jones, Olivia McCord, Gunner McCord, Cade and Brady Culbreth, Nora and Scarlett Dean, and Mikalyn Thomas; siblings: Daryl Dean, and Jean Saunders; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
