Mr. Donald Curtis Chavis, Sr. (Uncle Donald), age 66, a resident of Cottonwood died Sunday September 21, 2014 at the SAMC after a brief illness. 


Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday September 26, 2014 in the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Chris Williams officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery with Kendall Glover directing. 


The family will be receiving friends on Friday from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the Glover Funeral Home Chapel. 


The family will be receiving flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. 


Mr. Chavis was born on August 19, 1948 in Lexington County, South Carolina the son of Wilber Brodus Chavis and Rosa Mildred Chavious Chavis.  He was retired as a carpenter and was a member of the Center Baptist Church.  Mr. Chavis moved to Houston County in 1989 from Charleston, S.C. and was a 1968 graduate of St. John’s High School in John’s Island, S.C. 


He was preceded in death by his parents. 


Survivors include: daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Gunn (Kenny), Lucedale, MS.; son, Donald Curtis “Bubba” Chavis, Jr. (Evelyn), Prattville, AL.; sister, Patricia Suggs (Bobby), Ravenel, S.C.; 4 brothers, James Chavis (JoAnn), Charleston, S.C.; Larry Chavis (Becky), John’s Island, S.C.; Audrey Chavis (Alberta), James Island, S.C.; Charles Chavis (Angie), John’s Island, S.C.; 5 grandchildren. 


Pallbearers will be: Bobby Suggs, Johnny Suggs, Spence Suggs, David Suggs, Robby Suggs and Michael Arsenault. 


Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
