Mr. Donald Jefferson Rhodes of Goathill Road, Samson, Alabama passed away Saturday, January 31, 2015. He was 83.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Mike Shortt and Bro. Dell Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in the First Assembly of God Church Cemetery in Cottondale, Florida with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continue until service time.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Friendship Baptist Church (Holley Store Community in Coffee County).
Mr. Rhodes was born June 2, 1931, in Coffee County, Alabama to the late Carlous Jefferson and Jewel Gladys Wilks Rhodes. He was a retired dairy herdsman and in his early years he worked with Aukema’s Dairy and enjoyed going to the movie. He loved the farm life and working at the dairy. Mr. Rhodes was of the Baptist Faith. He enjoyed reading his Bible and was a very dedicated Christian.
In addition to his parents, his son, Donnie Wayne Rhodes, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Pauline Thurston Rhodes of Samson; two sisters: Helen Rhodes (Leon) Walden of Pensacola, FL and Mildred Rhodes (Ben) Otis of Milton, FL; three sisters-in-law: Catherine (Max) Thames, Carolyn (Doug) Scarborough and Patricia (Dell) Floyd, all of Samson; one brother-in-law, John (Jeanette) Thurston of Samson; several special nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Wiregrass Nursing Home, Wiregrass Hospital and Flowers Hospital for the dedicated and professional care that was given to their loved one.
