Mr. Douglas Rudyard Witte, a resident of Eufaula, Alabama passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Westside Terrace in Dothan, Alabama following an extended illness.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Thursday, February 3, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. CST at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Alabama with Bishop Terry Carter officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Eufaula directing. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Glover Funeral Home in Eufaula, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in Mr. Witte’s name be made to ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital-- 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
Douglas was born June 30, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Howard George Witte and Ruby Lorrine Zimmer Witte. He joined the United States Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1966. After his discharge he worked in forestry and trucking. He absolutely loved driving a semi-truck. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He once walked with an alligator. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Eufaula, Alabama and was dedicated to the service work of the church.
Mr. Witte is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jaden Sullivan.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 26 years, DeAnn Kay Galloway Witte; four sons, Michael McKown, Jonathan Sullivan (Beth), Stephen Sullivan (Aquilla), Jared Sullivan; two daughters, April Baxter (Robert), Patti Finch (Kris); sister, Barbara Ware (Oney); fifteen grandchildren, Cassie Sanchez, Taylor Sanchez, Rilie Sanchez, Lauren Baxter, Allona Sullivan, Landon Sullivan, Kali Sullivan, Bridget Sullivan, Aiden Albright, Lily Albright, Caleb Sullivan, Grayson Sullivan, Zoie Finch, Emily Finch, Kamden Finch; great-grandchild, Kalani Brown; several nieces and nephews.
