Mr. Carnes was born January 15, 1942 in Jefferson County to the late Ernest Rohan and Amanda Mercer Carnes. Earl was raised in Toombsboro, GA but lived most of his life in Geneva County, AL. He enjoyed wood working and spending time outdoors. Earl was a proud veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged after four years of service. Despite losing both his legs due to a train accident in 1966, the use of his left arm and countless other hardships, Earl possessed a resilient spirit and never gave up on life. He epitomized the words of the Apostle Paul, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith!" Survivors include two sons: James Carnes (Cindy), Slocomb and Tim Carnes (Erika), Sneads, FL; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Smallwood (David), Toomsboro, GA; nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
