Edward “Knot” Ward, age 85, of Dothan, passed away Friday, September 13, 2024.


Born April 8, 1939 in Geneva County, Alabama to the late Jesse Eli Ward and Lena Mae Sanders Ward, Knot was a member of Frith Hill Community Church. He enjoyed fishing and camping in the great outdoors. He also loved tinkering and working with his hands, especially woodworking.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Agnes Ward; and three brothers.


He is survived by his sons, William Ward (Sandra) and Gordon Ward (Diane Long) and his daughter, Sue Johnson (David); his grandchildren, Mary Caitlyn Pinyan (Phillip), Chris Johnson, Hilary Myers (Josh), Christopher Cosby (Bethany), Dallas Hires (Hannah), and Eden Victoria Merritt (Casey); his great-grandchildren, Reese, Eli, Gage, Lily, and Joselyn; his sisters, Elizabeth Henson (John), Patricia Dickerson (Billy), and Linda Riley; his brother, Johnny Waters (Shirley); several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, September 15, 2024 from the chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Max McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 PM until 1 PM, prior to the service.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Josh Myers, Chris Cosby, Dallas Hires, David Johnson, Larry Johnson, and Richard Johns.
