Mr. Ernest Lane, age 70, of Beaumont, TX and formerly of Dothan passed away Monday, July 6, 2015 after a 14 year battle with cancer.
A powerlifting champion, Ernest holds one world record and three state records for the state of Texas. He participated in many Regattas worldwide, his speedboat “Sudden Suicide.” Ernest served as Chaplain for the Houston Oilers, was a scout for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was also a part of Mike Barber’s Prison Ministry. Ernest worked for many years as lead pipeline designer for Wood Group Mustang in Houston, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Joseph Lane and Eunice Swofford Lane and a sister, Ruth Doberstyn.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Kay Clark Lane; his daughter, Rebecca Jo (Dave) Thompson; his son, Ernest Joseph (Nancy) Lane; his sister, Judy Lane Cole; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 4 PM, Saturday, July 18, 2015 from the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Robert Smith, Frank Ricci, and Benji McWaters officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 PM until service time at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.
