Mr. Eugene Williams, affectionately known as “Blue” to his many friends, of Lowery Street, Black, Alabama passed away Monday, October 21, 2013. He was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home. Burial will follow with military honors in the Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Geneva directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Williams was born on February 18, 1931 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Maggie Lee Broxton Williams. A dedicated public servant, Mr. Williams previously served as the mayor of Black as well as the Fire Chief. A proud veteran, Mr. Williams served in the United States Army and retired after 21 years of faithful service. He also retired from the Bethlehem Steel Company in Baltimore, Maryland after 21 years of service. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Mattie Louise Williams; a daughter, Geraldine Williams; and a grandson, Jerome Williams all preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters: Barbara Jones (Lee), Enterprise; Diane White (Roland), Jacksonville, FL and Carol A. McCray (Benjamin), Black, one son, Willie Eugene Williams, Bronx, NY; nine special grandchildren, especially Felecia Jones; 19 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Renee Sowell, Enterprise; sister-in-law, Sarah McClain (Pete), Selma NC; three brother-in-laws, Donnell Kenan (Mary), Kenly, NC; William “Bill” Kenan (Christine), NC; Leroy Kenan (Sarah), College Park, MD; and other extended family and friends.
