A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, April 6, 2021 in Clearman Chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Chris Howell officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Dothan Fire Department, 600 Columbia Hwy, Dothan, Alabama 36301.
A lifelong resident of the Wiregrass, Fred was born August 18, 1954. He was raised by his great aunt and then was adopted by the Dothan Fire Department where he did what he did best which was to serve and help others. Fred served his country in the United States Army and returned to serve the public with the Dothan Fire Department. He was one of the original founders of the Dothan Athletic Club. Like a tree, we strive to build foundations in life and to create a covering that reaches to many. Fred was known to many as being physically strong from body building competitions, but he was best known as being a gentle giant that stood strong and like a tree, full of life. You could always catch him riding his bike at Westgate Park or working at Dothan Athletic Club. Like a tree, we only see one layer, but if we look with in, we will find a man that through a life of growth became a strong father, grandfather, brother, fiancé, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie Howell Sr. and Betty Prince Howell; and brothers, Carroll Howell, Billy Hugh Redd, and Dorland P. Baird.
Survivors include a son, Chris Howell (Jennifer); fiancé, Hannah Edgman; one brother, Robin Howell (Laurie); one sister, Tracy English (Johnny); three grandchildren, McKenzie Howell, J.C. Howell, and Parker Dean Howell.
