Garland Kimble “GK” Offutt, Jr. was born October 17, 1932 in Lexington, Kentucky to the late Garland Kimble and Katherine Wilson Offutt. Garland departed this life on March 4, 2020 in Dothan, AL.
Garland graduated from Central High School, Louisville, KY. He attended the University of Louisville. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Garland served in the US Air Force prior to entering the US Army. ISG Offutt retired from the US Army on October 31, 1986. During his enlistment, Garland received numerous decorations, medals, and campaign ribbons which included the following: Bronze Star Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Silver and 1 Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Rifle, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (9th Award), and Legion of Merit Award.
After his retirement, Garland worked as a bookkeeper and as a veterinary assistant.
Garland was married for 53 years to the love of his life Mary Ellen Reynolds Offutt, who preceded him in death.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Reginald Duvall Offutt, and James Thurston Thomas.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted son, Andre’ Offutt (Karen) of Hillsborough, NC and a loving brother, Kenneth Carter (Danita) of Louisville, KY., 6 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous other family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, August 30, 2021, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Hardy Hill, III officiating
