Mr. Garnel Wesley Childs, 88 years old, of Daleville, Alabama, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 30, 2019, from Daleville Baptist Church with Reverend Shane Traylor officiating. Interment will follow in Daleville Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors, Holman Funeral Home and Cremations of Ozark directing. Members of the Daleville Masonic Lodge 903 will be conducting the final rites service at graveside.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ozark Friday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P. M. and in the church Saturday for one hour prior to service time. Condolences may be expressed at www.HolmanFuneralHome.com
Mr. Childs was born August 2, 1930, to James Alfred and Nancy Colyer Childs in Humphreys County, Belzoni, Mississippi. He married Lettie Sue Rowland on October 27, 1951 at Belzoni, MS. and had three children, Patricia Ann Childs Van Dyk (Ken) of Plainwell, Michigan, Wesley David Childs of Daleville, Alabama, and Mary Lou Childs of Montgomery, Alabama. Mr. Childs entered the Army on November 3, 1948 and retired on May 1, 1969 with a rank of Sergeant and was serving in the helicopter maintenance division. His tour of duty lasted through the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring he made his home in Daleville, Alabama where he started his own business Childs Pools Construction Company. He is a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of the Valley of Dothan and a Master Mason of the Daleville Lodge 903 in Daleville, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Alfred and Nancy Colyer Childs; his wife, Lettie Sue Rowland; his son, David Childs; six brothers, James Edward Childs, Robert Lee Childs, Luther David Childs, Morris Lynn Childs, Willie Rufus Childs, and Alfred Junior Childs.
Mr. Childs is survived by his two daughters Patty and Mary; his two brothers, Billy Joe Childs and Gary Allen Childs (Jill) all of Belzoni, MS; two sisters, Doris Faye Grisham of Belzoni and Edna Pearl Hobson of Isola, MS; grandchildren, Corey Allen Bowsher (Lisa), Toby Lee Bowsher (Samantha), Tonya Marie Bowsher Regan (Tim), Adam Benjamin Childs; great-grandchildren, Haylee and Haven Bowsher, Christain Cramer and Savannah Bowsher, Madilyn, Mikaela, and Finnegan Regan.
