Mr. George Albert Lindholm, age 96, of Dothan, AL passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 am on Tuesday June 4, 2013 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Koscis officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alabama Kidney Foundation, P.O. Box 12505, Birmingham, AL, 35202, or to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL, 36303.
Mr. Lindholm was born in Oakland, CA on December 28, 1916 to the late Erik A. Lindholm and Hilda Pikkereinen. Mr. Lindholm retired in January 1986 after 48 years in the aerospace industry. He attended the University of California - Berkley, San Jose State College, and graduated from Curtiss Wright School of Aeronautics in Glendale, CA. After graduation from aeronautical school in 1938, he was employed with Grand Central Aircraft Company (an aircraft service, modification, overhaul, and flight training facility) in Glendale, CA and Tucson, AZ. In 1954, Mr. Lindholm was offered and accepted a position with Hayes International Corporation in Birmingham, AL where he remained until 1958, at which time he was transferred to the Hayes Dothan Division. He retired from Hayes International Corp., Dothan Division where he was Division President as well as a member of the Corporate Board of Directors and President of Air International, Clearwater, FL.
Mr. Lindholm was a past member of the Dothan Rotary Club, Dothan Country Club, Director on the Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Council of Alabama Institute of Aviation Technology, Air Force Association, Navy League, AUSA, and former Director 5th Region of the Boy Scouts of America from whom he received the Silver Beaver Award.
Mr. Lindholm was preceded in death by his first wife Elsie Marie Lindholm.
Survivors include his wife Dolores C. Lindholm; a daughter Cheryl Lindholm Browning of Dothan; a son and daughter-in-law Gerry and Mary Helen Lindholm of Hendersonville, NC; stepchildren, Candy Coe Bayer, Dean Coe, of New Orleans, LA, Debbie Coe of Montgomery, AL, and Dr. Craig Coe of Dothan, AL; a grandson, Erik A. Lindholm; great-granddaughters, Isabella A. Lindholm and Anna B. Lindholm; 6 step grandchildren, Doni Sawyer, Coe Sawyer, Abbie Coe, Charlsie Coe Dunning, Chrissie Bayer, and Katie Bayer; 8 step great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Craig, Bill Gates, Tom Hicks, Scott McInnis, Gus Schaper, and Tom Thompson.
