Obituary: Mr. George Leon Scarbrough
Mr. George Leon Scarbrough of Newton passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Flowers Hospital. He was 74.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021 in the Wicksburg Assembly of God Church Cemetery with Brother Tim Simmons officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family request that everyone attending the graveside please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made in honor of his granddaughter, Annabelle Grace Bartel’s battle with childhood cancer to Children’s Oncology Group, 3720 Spruce Street, #506, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
Mr. Scarbrough was born March 10, 1946 in Campton, FL to the late Jim and Cloye Hughes Scarbrough. George grew up in Crestview, FL area and entered the Navy soon after graduating High School. He served two tours in the Vietnam War and was honorable discharged. After HVAC trade school, he worked 39 years for Smith’s Incorporated of Dothan as a Sheet Metal and Job Site Foreman. George loved his grandchildren, hunting and all aspects of working on his farm. He could often be found sitting on his front porch visiting with friends or traveling to Texas for time with his three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, two brothers: Jerald Scarbrough, and Herbert Scarbrough all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Scarbrough; daughter, Leslie Scarbrough Bartel (Eric); grandchildren: Annabelle Grace Bartel, Sean Ryan Bartel, and John Wyatt Bartel; sister, Audrey Williams; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
