Mr. Gerald Maxton “Max” Thames of Goat Hill Road, Samson, Alabama went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 15, 2015. He was 78.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015, in the Liberty Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Holt, Rev. Jack Thomasson, Rev. Ron Thames and Rev. Dell Floyd officiating. Mr. Thames will be placed into the church one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home directing.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Chapel Cemetery Fund, c/o Gary Thames, 703 Goat Hill Road, Samson, Alabama 36477.
Mr. Thames was born December 30, 1936, Geneva County, Alabama to the late Leamon Randolph and Wauree Mae Pippin Thames. He enjoyed going to church and singing. For a number of years he was a member of The Way Lighters Quartet. Mr. Thames was a lifelong member of Liberty Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a trustee. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
In addition to his parents, an infant sister, Wanda Gale Thames, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Catherine Thurston Thames; one daughter, Deborah McQueen (Steve) all of Samson; four grandchildren: Clint Hillman of Dothan, Morgan Hillman, Carly Hillman and Caleb Massey, all of Samson; two brothers: Ron Thames (Johnnie) of Freeport, FL and Gary Thames (Joy) of Samson; four sisters: Carol Waller (Jeff) of Samson, Peggy Faulk (Joe) of Troy, Jozan Plaza of Enterprise and Tonya Hillman (Roger) of Anacoco, LA; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
Nephews serving as active pallbearers will be Berry Thames, Mike Waller, Chris Thames, Scott Gilmore, Paul Thurston and Tim Stephens. All other nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
