Mr. Thrasher, son of the late William Robert Thrasher, Sr. and Carolyn Celesta Brooks Thrasher, recently retired and returned to Alabama with his family after working 35+ years at Abitibi Papermill, Universal Postal Service, and UPS Chain Solutions, all near Seattle, Washington. His youth was spent in Thomasville, Georgia and then in the Arguta community near Ozark, Alabama. Mr. Thrasher graduated from Carroll High School and then attended Auburn University where he studied computer science. He met his future wife shortly after college at the VFW in Eufaula while playing bingo with their parents. The couple were married December 26, 1987, and worked alongside one another for years, first at Lakepoint State Park and then traveling around the southern states selling cookware.
After having their first child, Haley, they moved to Lakewood, Washington to be near Linda’s family. McKenzie made her appearance just four years later to complete their family.
Mr. Thrasher’s favorite pastime was spent camping, fishing, golfing, and attending Seattle Mariners and Tacoma Rainiers games with his family, and he loved spending time with friends at his favorite hangout The Oaktree. After battling health issues for more than ten years, Mr. Thrasher retired and made the move home to Alabama in time for Thanksgiving 2018. Mr. Thrasher enjoyed the last three years fishing with his brothers, gathering for big, southern-style family meals, and watching his favorite teams the Seattle Seahawks and Mariners and, especially the Auburn Tigers, WDE!
Mr. Thrasher was preceded in death in addition to his parents, by his in-laws James and Sofia Walden; a brother William R. Thrasher; a brother in-law Johnny Walden; a nephew Chad Hammond; and a niece Nina Gore.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 34 years, Linda Sofia Thrasher; two daughters Haley Thrasher (Adam Sonnier) and McKenzie Thrasher (Torrey Dillard); three brothers Horace Thrasher (Kaye), Jack Thrasher (Bobbie) and Ricky Thrasher (Janet); four sisters-in-law Jilda Thrasher, Mary Caton, Glenda Wagner, and Hellen Hammond (Dale); three brothers in-law Jimmy Walden, Edward Walden (Philly) and David Walden (Michelle); three grandchildren Keoni James Thrasher, Miamor Sonnier, and Iyonna Rose Sonnier; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the emergency care team at Ozark EMS, Dale Medical Center, Survival Flight and Baptist Medical Center South. The expert care and compassion shown by all was above and beyond and greatly appreciated. The family was especially touched by the ICU unit at Baptist where the doctor and nurse stayed long after their shift to be with family members as they said goodbye.
