Mr. Hamp Filmore Pridgen of Samson, AL passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016. He was 85.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Danny Branch officiating and Warren Holloway Ward Funeral Home of Geneva directing.
Mr. Pridgen was born in Geneva County, AL on October 19, 1930 to the late Warsaw and Flora Mae Jennings Pridgen. Mr. Pridgen was extremely involved in the Democratic Party during the 1980’s. He was very instrumental in founding the Flat Creek Fire Department as well as the Flat Creek Community Center. Mr. Hamp was recognized as Geneva County Firefighter of the Year for two years. He was widely recognized throughout the county for keeping and transposing a daily diary of activities, as well as monthly rainfall totals from 1947 until 2014. He held historic rainfall totals passed down by his elders dating back from 1929.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Pridgen; one grandson, William Christopher Adams; one sister, Juanita Newell.
He is survived by one daughter, Lisa Ann Jones (Tim) of Samson, AL; two sons, Tonny Lynn Pridgen (Jan) of Samson, AL and Mark Edison of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Jody Filmore Pridgen (Megan) of Samson, AL, Kelsey Miller (Seth) of Dothan, AL, and Tori McIntyre (Joseph) of Ft. Rucker, AL; two great grandchildren, Logan Pridgen of Samson, AL, and Anderson Pridgen of Ft. Rucker, AL.
