Mr. Hubert Hampton “Hamp” Griggs of Samson passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2015. He was 93. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Samson with Rev. Richard Thorn officiating. Burial will follow at Travelers Rest Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Mr. Griggs’ grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home, Resident Activity Fund, 1200 W. Maple Ave., Geneva, AL 36340.
Mr. Griggs was born on August 10, 1922, in Holmes County, Fla. to the late John Easter Griggs, Sr. and Annie Pricilla Royals Griggs. He graduated from Geneva High School, Class of 1939. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Griggs was a grocer and worked many years in real estate. He owned several rental properties in the area. He was preceded in death by his wife, Penny Davis Jenkins Griggs; sister, Jewell Ausley; brother, John E. Griggs, Jr.; and his son, Harry Hampton Griggs.
He is survived by three daughters, Sandra Gayle Morris (Lamar) of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., Victoria Ann “Vicki” Holley (Steve) of Mobile and Pamela Griggs Gamble of Panama City, Fla.; his longtime personal companion, Charlotte Driggers of Samson; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
