Mr. Harley B. “Pete” Thompson of Ashford passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at his residence. He was 85.


 


Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Enterprise Baptist Church in Ashford with Chaplain Sonny Moore and Dr. David Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


 


The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, February 2, 2018. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be to the Enterprise Baptist Church Building Fund or to your favorite charity in Mr. Thompson’s memory.


 


Mr. Thompson attended Auburn University where he received his BS and MS in Agricultural Education and Troy University where he received his AA Degree. He was a vocational agricultural instructor for 20 years. He was also Vice-President of Producer Relations at Sessions Peanut Company for 25 years. Mr. Thompson was very civic minded being involved in various organizations.  He was active in First Baptist Church Enterprise where he served as a deacon and Sunday School Director for many years. After retirement, he became involved in the outreach ministry by visiting shut-ins. He also was involved in several different professional organizations.


 


Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents Bert M. Thompson and Florine Trawick Thompson and brother-in-law Homer Aman, Jr.


 


Survivors include his wife of 64 years Peggy Thompson, son Jeff Thompson (Denise), sisters Mary Nell Aman, Ruby Clyde Baxley (Lorell), grandchildren Karen Thompson, Douglas Thompson (Katherine), great-grandchildren Andrew Thompson, Grace Thompson and several nieces and nephews.


 


Pallbearers will be Douglas Thompson, Earl Johnson, Sammy Taylor, Bill Ventress, Moultrie Sessions, Jr. and Ronald Simmons.


 


Honorary pallbearers will be the caregivers of Wiregrass Homecare.
