Harvey Thomas Kirkland, Jr. “Tommy”, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014, at his residence. He was 64.
Celebration of life services for Mr. Kirkland will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Cloverdale Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Singletary and Rev. Saint-Ange Monestime officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill cemetery with Southern Heritage directing. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 8, 2014 from 5 PM until 7 PM at Cloverdale Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to: Cloverdale Baptist Church, 806 Dexter Street, Dothan, AL 36301 for the Idadee Orphanage in Haiti.
Mr. Kirkland was born October 23, 1949, in Panama City, Florida, to the late Harvey Thomas Kirkland, Sr. and Mary Lee Davis Kirkland. He worked as a medical technologist at the Medical Center, Dale County Hospital and later retired with the Department of Public Health in 2008. Mr. Kirkland was a follower of Christ and a member of Cloverdale Baptist where he served as Chairman of Missions and led numerous mission teams in the US and Haiti. Mr. Kirkland was a representative of Community Bible Study International and was instrumental in setting up many Bible study classes and taught pastors’ conferences in Haiti.
Mr. Kirkland is survived by his wife, Pat Kirkland, Dothan; son and daughter in law, Dr. Bryan and Bekah Kirkland, Covington, GA; daughter and son in law, Courtney and Josh Halubka, Taipei, Taiwan; five grandchildren, Luke and Jackie Kirkland, Judson, Esayas , and Corrie Halubka; two sisters; Lenora Wilkes, Coral Gables, FL, Linda Armagost (Don), Columbia, MS; two nieces, Lena Kirby, Debbie Laing and a nephew, Donald Armagost.
Serving as active pallbearers will be, Don Armagost, Bob Ludlum, David Brantley, Ricky Seales, Mitchell Brantley, and George McClintock, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be, Edsel Johnson and Matthew Johnson.
