Herbert Vickery Jackson, age 82 of Dothan passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. 


Born December 8, 1932 and raised in Dothan to the late John Will and Jessie Owens Jackson, Mr. Jackson was a graduate of the Dothan High School Class of 1951 and a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church.  He served his country in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. After his service, he graduated from Troy State University in 1960 with a degree in math/physics/chemistry. At 56, he retired from civil service as a statistician with the US Army Safety Center at Ft. Rucker. Herb loved his wife, his girls, doing handyman jobs for other, and of course, Panama City Beach. He will be fondly remembered as Poppy by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as Sophie, his Yorkie. 


In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Henry G. Jackson, and brothers, John O. Jackson and Billy J. Jackson. 


Survivors include his wife of almost 57 years, Mary Jean Harden Jackson; his daughters, Lisa (Ricky) Hayes and Lori (Gary) Hughes; his sister, Jessie O’Neal; his brother, Charles (Frances) Jackson; his sisters-in-law, Jeri Jackson and Melba Jackson; his grandchildren, Brooke Hayes, Britton and Lindsey Hughes, Evan Hughes, and Brandon Hayes; his great-grandchildren, Raygan and Daven Hughes; and a host of other relatives and friends. 


Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Clint McBroom officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM, Monday, June 15, 2015 at the funeral home. At all other times, the family will be at the home of Gary & Lori Hughes, 421 Southern Oak Drive, Dothan, AL. 


The family will be accepting flowers or contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rockbridge Road, Dothan, AL  36303.
