Mr. Hovie Eugene Sawyers, Sr. of Slocomb passed away Thursday, June 21, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was 84.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home with Rev. William Irwin officiating.  Burial will follow in New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. 

Mr. Hovie was born on February 29, 1928 in Geneva County to the late Geanie and Lestie Shields Sawyers.  He was a member of Christian Home Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, two sisters:  Myrtice Peacock and Buenie Miller; and two brothers:  Doyle Sawyers and J.D. Peacock all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary Nell Sawyers; one daughter, Sherri Wells; three sons: Hovie Eugene Sawyers, Jr., Ronald Sawyers (Janice) and Larry Sawyers all of Slocomb; two brothers:  Franklin Peacock of Slocomb and Gerald Don Peacock of Dothan; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Covenant Hospice for their love and kindness shown to Mr. Hovie and the entire family during his illness.
