Obituary:  Mr. Howard Wayne Hatton


 


Mr. Howard Wayne Hatton of Slocomb passed away suddenly Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Flowers Hospital. He was 68. 



Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Slocomb with Reverend Larry Newton officiating.  Interment will follow in Wrights Creek Cemetery.  



The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until service time. 


Mr. Hatton was born December 24, 1948 in Houston County to the late Howard Hatton and Melba Hatton. He was a lifelong resident of Geneva County and graduated from Slocomb High School in 1967. Wayne attended college in Birmingham where he earned a degree in electronics.  After earning his degree, he was employed by Mayer/Mack Electric and was a loyal employee for 46 years until his retirement. He then dedicated his time on the family farm and enjoyed watching his grandchildren (who referred to him as Grumpy) play sports for the Slocomb Redtops. Even though they called him Grumpy, he loved them more than anything in the world. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed. 


In addition to his parents, his grandson, Coy Mattox McGowan and his sister, Wanda Pert preceded him in death. 


Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Molly Hatton; children: Missy Hatton Hagler (Rodney), Rusty Hatton (Renee), Bryan Hatton (Heather) and Megan Hatton McGowan (Matt);  grandchildren: Matt, Abby, John and Mallory Hagler, Drew, Will, and Cole Hatton; Hayes, AnnaDee and Ellie Hatton; Molly and Mattie McGowan; special nephew, Darren Pert; several sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
