Hugh Liddon Byrd, a resident of Dothan, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 after a brief illness at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 79.

 

Funeral services for Hugh will be held at 11 Am Friday March 3, 2017 at Selma Baptist Church with Dr. Brent Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted.

 

Hugh was born July 6, 1937 in Houston County, Alabama to the late Grady and Imogene Whiddon Byrd. He graduated from Rehobeth High School and then began a career at Hedstrom Union and later retired from Twitchell Manufacturing. Hugh coached girls softball with the City of Dothan and the Selma Baptist Women’s’ team for many years. He was a lifelong member of Selma Baptist Church.

 

Hugh is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gerald Byrd.

 

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Judy Byrd; four daughters, Tracy Byrd and her husband Dennie Kite, Lisa Barrett, Amy Hughes, Monica and Dwain Capps; son, Brent and Sherry Snell; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; sister, Martha Paramore.
