J. C. Thurman passed away into the arms of Jesus on April 2, 2021 at the age of 88.
J. C. was born on March 4, 1933 to Clyde and Aimey Z. Thurman in Geneva County, AL. J. C. retired from AAA Cooper in April 1995. He served faithfully at Selma Baptist Church as a deacon for many years where he was known as “the biscuit man.”
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Byrd and Lucy Peters Waters, Oscar and Maggie Berry Thurman; his parents, Clyde and Aimey Thurman; his brothers, Huey Edwin Thurman and Aubie Harris Thurman.
J. C. is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Florene Skinner Thurman; daughter, Brenda (Bill) Smith; sons, Larry (Dee) Thurman and Jeff (Tammy) Thurman; grandchildren, Melissa Smith (Kevin) Watkins, Joshua Smith, Tim (Katie) Thurman, Patrick (Meredith) Thurman, Chase Thurman, and Jacie Thurman; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, April 5, 2021 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Dr. Brent Parker, Reverend Patrick Thurman, Chris Cagle and Reverend Jerry Grandstaff officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, prior to the service.
Serving as active pallbearers will be the deacons of Selma Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of J. C. be made to Selma Baptist Church Building Fund, 3255 S. Park Avenue, Dothan, AL 36301.
The family would like to thank Ms. Bertha Rivers, the staff of 3 East at Southeast Health and Southern Care Hospice for their care.
