J. Lee Barnes, age 83, of Taylor, passed away Friday, July 16, 2021 surrounded by his family.
Lee was born January 21, 1938 in Houston County to the late J D Barnes and Lonie Mae Givens Barnes. Lee served his country in the United States Navy. He was a dedicated family man and hard worker. Lee retired after over 30 years with GTE and then enjoyed a second retirement after 23 years with Solomon Chevrolet. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and yardwork/gardening. He was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his sisters, Merline Barnes and Eldora Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Annette Barnes; his sons, Ronnie Barnes (Starla) and George Cook; his daughter, Tammy Brown (Keith); his grandchildren, Brandon Barnes (Jamie), Heath Brown (Courtney), Haley Grimes, Hunter Brown, and Matthew Cook (Ashley); his great-grandchildren, Stone, Peyton, Paige, Blakelyn, Kasen, Kolten, Kyler, Kolby, Addyson, Bella, Bonnie, Brody, and Lane; his brother, Rayford Barnes (Jean); several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, July 19, 2021 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Andy Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM, prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Barnes, Heath Brown, George Cook, Matthew Cook, Dennis Barnes, and Tommy Davis.
