Mr. Jack R. Benton, age 93 of Dothan passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, after an extended illness.
Mr. Benton was born on January 26, 1931, the son of the late Ira J. and Maggie Daisy Turner Benton. He began his career at the age of 18 with Dothan Hosiery Company until the closure. He then began Television Repair and opened Benton Electronics until his retirement at 62.
Mr. Benton was a member of First Baptist Church, Dothan.
Along with his parents, Mr. Benton was preceded in death by sons Gregory Benton and Tony A. Powell, brothers Fred and Ora Bell, Comer and Myrlene Wilson and Lizzie, RC and Verbie, J Lee and Myrtle, sisters Lola Mae and Elmer Lawrence, Anna Bell and Roy Palmer, Estelle and Clyde Sewell, Beatrice and Harris Mercer and Grace and Dewey Napier, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Hopkins Benton, daughter Donna Boyd, sons Michael Benton, Gregory J. Powell, 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Dr. Taylor Rutland and Reverend Joshua Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, great-grandsons, and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 – 11 A.M. Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 West Main Street, Dothan, Al 36301.
