Jack W. Kines, a long-time resident of Dothan passed away August 20, 2017 at his home, following a gallant battle with cancer.  He was 85 and a member of Grandview Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Glover Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Grimes officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 prior to the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Grandview Baptist Church Building Fund, 2400 Forrester Road, Dothan, AL, 36301.

Mr. Kines was born December 21, 1931 in Cherokee County, Alabama.  He graduated from Cherokee County High School and attended Jacksonville State on a football scholarship.  He later joined the Navy and served during the Korean conflict on the USS Hancock.  In 1958 he went to work with GAC Finance, which eventually led him to Americus, GA, where he met and married his wife and brought her to Dothan in 1960.  He later worked for DMI, Napier Field until the plant closed.  He was then employed by SAMC until 2002, when he retired after 20 years.

He was an avid football fan and cheered for the Crimson Tide.  He was voted captain of his high school football team his senior year.  He was voted a member of the “All Time Great Cherokee County High School Football Team” in 2004, at left half-back.  He was also inducted into the Cherokee County High School Hall of Fame in 2013.

Jack recently accepted Christ as his Savior and his first thought was to call a friend and encourage him to receive Christ.  He wanted to be sure we included this quote in his obituary: “Please don’t wait as long as I did, God loves you and is ready to forgive anything you have done.  He forgave me so I know He will forgive you!  Jesus will change your life and the direction you are going.  I have prayed that all who read this will believe and that you will ask God to forgive you and accept Christ as your Savior.”

He loved his family, friends and neighbors and was very grateful that God allowed him some extra days, after his diagnosis, to spend quality time with them.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Lillie Kines, Centre, AL; his brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Rose Kines, Hokes Bluff, AL; his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Henry Holder, Pontiac MI; his mother-in-law, Willie Mae Parker Lovett, Duluth, GA; and his father-in-law, Robert Parker, Geneva, GA.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Pat Parker Kines; his daughter, Terri Eldridge (Brian); three granddaughters, Olivia Grace Eldridge, Faith Ellen Eldridge, and Maybri Kines Eldridge, all of Dothan; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Lindsey (Clint), Austell GA; Betty Ethridge, Milner, GA, and Barbara Waterstradt (Greg), Columbia, SC; numerous nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the AlaCare nurses, aids, and support staff for the love and special care they provided for Jack during his illness.  The each became a part of our family.

Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.  (334) 699-3888.  Please sign the guestbook on line at www.gloverfuneral.com.
