OZARK…Mr. James Arthur Martin, a resident of Ozark, died early Friday afternoon, August 18, 2023, in the emergency room of Dale Medical Center. He was 69.
Funeral services, with military honors, will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 24, 2023, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gene Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Cemetery in Avon, Alabama. Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Martin, son of the late Meather Martin, Sr. and Cochie Ratliff, was a native of Clintwood, Virginia. He joined the United States Marine Corps at age of 17 and served two tours in Japan and the Mediterranean. Mr. Martin was retired from the City of Ocala, Florida as a master mechanic after forty years of employment. Some of his favorite pastimes were flying radio-controlled airplanes and studying astronomy. Mr. Martin loved his wife, children, and all of his brothers and sisters, was an animal lover of all animals. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Teresa May Martin; a daughter, Robin Martin; three brothers, Ledford Mullins, Fred Mullins, and James Merril Mullins.
Surviving relatives include his daughter, Debra Moon, Ozark; three sons, Kenneth Martin, Ozark, John Miller, Ocala, Florida, and James Martin, Jr., Jacksonville, Florida; four sisters, Jane Heishman, Eaton, Ohio, Mary Ann Evans, Savannah, Tennessee, Katrina Stanley (Robert), Haysi, Virginia, and Gwen Martin, Houston, Texas; two brothers, Robert Martin, Hollywood, Florida, Meather Martin, Jr. (Dezedra), Bealton, Virginia; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Corey and David Bannister.
