OZARK…Mr. James A. Smith, Jr. (Captain, United States Army, Retired), a resident of Ozark, died early Sunday morning, May 29, 2022, at his home. He was 77.
Homegoing services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 4, 2022, in the Fuqua Bankston Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Walter Pogue officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith, son of the late James Arnold Smith, Sr. and Marion Terry Smith, was a native of Louisville, Kentucky. He lived in various locations in the United States while his father served in the military. Mr. Smith was a graduate of Albany State University, received his Master’s degree from Troy State University, and was a member of the Kappa Alpha PSI Fraternity. He was veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the United States Army, where he retired with the rank of Captain. Mr. Smith’s passion was flying Ultralight Airplanes and he enjoyed participating in car shows. He attended First Missionary Baptist Church in Ozark. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his siblings, Terry Smith, Myron Smith, and Ronald Smith; aunts, Lucille Rivers, Ethel Chambers, Callie Mickles, and Auntrienne Estes; uncle, Clyde Smith.
Surviving relatives include his wife of fifty-two years, Carrie Lee Smith, Ozark; a daughter, Tajuanna M. Mobley (Terry), Carrollton, Georgia; two sons, Michael D. Smith (Yashica), Huntsville, Alabama and Jeffrey P. Smith (Xaviar), Arizona; a sister, Rhonette Strapp, Columbus, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Bettie Carter, Mary Poindexter both of Albany, Georgia, Annie Doris Howard, Cuthbert, Georgia, Dollie Jackson, Albany, Georgia, Earnestine Jackson, Lithia Springs, Georiga, Sandra Smith, Tampa, Florida, and Janice Smith, Fairburn, Georgia; ten grandchildren, Anthony Mack, Nicholas Mack, Benjamin Smith, Miya Smith, Michaela Smith, Jaydeon Smith, Money Smith, Mone Smith, D’Andre Yarbrough, Dasia Smith, and Daymiane Smith; six great-grandchildren, Yoite Mack, Karter Smith, Tsuki Mack, Raiu Mack, and Leilani Shepherd.
