Mr. James Arthur Wise of Samson passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016. He was 85. Funeral services will at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016, at the Samson First Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Baughman and Rev. Sam Totten officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Monday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, DUMC, Box 3624, Durham, NC 27710, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mr. Wise was born in the Fairview Community on April 19, 1931, to the late John Allen and Annie Mae Russell Wise. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Samson. Mr. Wise was a graduate of Samson High School and Auburn University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. At Auburn he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity.
James was a cattleman farmer in Geneva and Coffee Counties. He received the Livestock Production Award in both counties, the 2001 Geneva Farm Family of the Year, 2004 Coffee County Farm of Distinction and the 2005 Alabama Farm of Distinction Award.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Joyce French Wise of Samson; son, J. Allen Wise (Mary Ashley) of Andalusia; daughter, Amy Suzanne Wise-Coble of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Cristy Allen “Allee” Coble, John Allen Paul Wise, Olivia Lane Joyce Wise, Catherine Maddox Coble and William Henry “Will” Coble, IV; two sisters, Clara Jean McInish of Dothan and Ruth Williams of Sylacauga; brother-in-law, John C. French of Auburn; sister-in-law, Suzanne French Burdeshaw (Edward) of Columbus, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
