Mr. James Dupree Dillard of Black, AL passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 at his home. He was 85.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, in the Pondtown United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Marley, Rev. Jonathan Shepard, and Rev. Donna Cumbie officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that contributions be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL 36303.
Mr. Dillard was born on April 19, 1927 in Geneva County, AL to the late Albert and Leola Dillard. He was a faithful member of Black United Methodist Church. He was a retired farmer and meat cutter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Lehman, Millard, Jimmy and Lamar Dillard; one sister: Joan Watson; two brothers-in-law: Pete Frederick, Floyd Peak; one sister-in-law: Judy Frederick; nephews: Greg Frederick, Johnny Peak.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sue Dillard, of Black; three children: Ed (Jan) Dillard of Dade City, FL, Phillip (Susan) Dillard, Beverly (Mark) Coe all of Hartford; eight grandchildren: Nick (Julie) Dillard of Chipley, FL, Dr. Brian (Casey) Dillard of Brooksville, FL, Lauren (Will) Butler of Okeechobee, FL, Felicia (Greg) Clifford of Cynthiana, KY, Clarissa (Dr. Jacob) Seales of Birmingham, AL, Meagan Coe (fiancé Chase Childs) of Hartford, Nicole (Rev. Jonathan) Shepard of Laurel Hill, FL; Haley (Zachary) Hayes of Geneva; six great grandchildren: Cole and Cass Dillard of Chipley, FL, W.D. and Wyatt Clifford of Cynthania, KY, Erin Dillard of Brooksville, FL, Charity Lee (Charlee) Hayes of Geneva; one sister: Jean (Calvin) Brooks of Hartford; two brothers: Kenneth (Faye) Dillard of Dothan, Max (Elizabeth) Dillard of Hartford; sisters-in-law: Melba Peak of Chancellor, Kate Dillard of Albany, GA, Peggy Dillard; a very special friend, his dog: Gracie; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Mark Dillard, Judson Brooks, Neil Dillard, Ricky Dillard, Stacey Watson, Clinton Watson, Paul Dillard, David Dillard, Andy Frederick and Jerry Peak. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and members of Black United Methodist Church.
