James Edward Powell, age 89, of Southern Junction passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at home.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 4 P.M. at Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend William Irwin and Reverend Larry Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately prior to the service, from 3 to 4 P.M.
Mr. Powell was born September 25, 1923 in Dothan, AL, the son of Vander Powell and Irelle Adkins Powell. He was a member of New Providence Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was a 1941 graduate of Rehobeth High School, served in the United States Army, and was a veteran of World War II. He was retired from Hedstrom Toy Manufacturing Company where he worked for 31 years. He was a kind and loving man who lived a Christian Life. He served his Lord faithfully and loved his family completely. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Glen Barnes and Nettie Louise Austin; in-laws, Iverson and Bama Isler; and a granddaughter, Kellie Renee Clackley.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Joyce Isler Powell; his brother, Charles David Powell (Sherry); 1 son, James Robert Powell (Renee); 2 daughters, Sharon Galpin (Randy), and Deborah McAllister; 5 grandchildren, Reggie (Shawna) McAllister, Reuben McAllister, Brian Bradshaw, Michelle (Al) Mann, James Kendall Powell; 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
